NZ Vietnam Vets Children Register 21/9/26

Kia ora Max-ann,

Thank you.

I understand the distinction you have made. Before accepting that I cannot be registered, could you please provide me with the statutory, regulatory or policy provision establishing that the Viet Nam family register is restricted to children whose parent deployed through the New Zealand Army?

I ask because the Veterans’ Affairs NZ public registration page states that children should register where their parent had “Qualifying Operational Service in Viet Nam”, rather than stating that the parent must have deployed through the New Zealand Army.

Could you also please advise whether that restriction applies only to eligibility for support/entitlements, or whether it also prevents Veterans’ Affairs NZ from recording an NZ citizen as the child of a Viet Nam veteran for health-monitoring and research purposes?

Regards

Danielle Stevens

Thanks Danni,

I have sent your enquiry on to our policy team for a formal response.

They will be in contact in due course

Ngā mihi

Max-ann
